Paint Correction - Defined

To correct paint means to machine polish it with the goal of removing scratches, swirls, etching, or other defects in the vehicles clearcoat. We used to call this β€œbuffing” and/or β€œpolishing”.

The large spinning brushes/scrubbers in conventional pull-through tunnel car washes very quickly scratch and swirl your paint. This is usually what brings the need for a paint correction. Dirt builds up in the scrubbers (rarely cleaned out) and gets spun across your paint at high speed as they spin. Improper washing methods over time can also do the same.

On newer vehicles, the paint you see consists of the β€œbase coat” (the color of your paint) and the β€œclear coat” (a moderately hard, clear and glossy layer that gives your vehicle shine and protects the base coat).

The quality and thickness of paint on new cars has been noticeably declining. Thickness of the average modern clear coat is a fraction of what it used to be. So, what does that mean? To make your paint last, it needs to be properly cared for, maintained, and protected.

When a paint correction is done by a trained professional, this process is perfectly safe and only removes a very small amount of clearcoat. The result is a stunning glossy, mirror finish - your vehicle will look better than it did brand new.

It’s important to ensure anyone performing this type of service is experienced and well trained. This requires specialized lighting, equipment, a controlled indoor environment, and takes 1-2 days to do properly.

Paint correction is our specialty, with almost 15 years of experience to back it. You can trust you are in the most capable possible hands at our shop. Check out the before / after pictures here, our Gallery section, or Instagram!

PRICING AND LEVELS.

Pricing is based on the condition of the vehicle and amount of steps we need to take to polish away the damage. In order to protect your car, paint correction is always followed with a ceramic coating. Package options with ceramic coatings represent starting prices for small SUV’s and sedans.

Levels of paint correction & what they mean:

LEVEL 1: Light, 1-step enhancement polish. Addresses only light swirls and scratches. Most vehicles that have been driven through car washes will need at least a Level 2 service.

LEVEL 2: Moderate, 2-step paint correction - cutting compound followed by finishing polish. Addresses light to moderate swirls, scratches, oxidation, and other defects.

LEVEL 3: Heavy, 3-step paint correction - cutting compound, followed by mid-step and finishing polish. Addresses moderate to severe swirls, scratches, oxidation, and other defects.

LEVEL 4: Heavy, 3-step correction with dry or wet sanding as needed. Addressing everything that can be fixed without repainting the vehicle.
